As of 2/13, our theme for the rest of Feburary and March will be based on the movements from the show The OA. You don't need to have seen the show to really dig the movement. It's POWERFUL. And, I'm combining it with my own choreography and an amazing song to make it super accessible and fun.
ALSO: More reason to come to class....
I'm coordinating "
Consider class your warm up :)
Seeing the show will put more meaning behind it for you, but the idea is that through these synchronized gestural movements we are "building a protective force field of love and light from the dark forces at play in our country and our world."
See you in the studio!!
YCDA dance classes, for both experienced dancers and total beginners, aim to fill in the gap between the extremes. In NYC especially, there are a ton of professional level classes, cardio dance classes, and free-form spiritual dance classes, but what about those of us who miss the feeling of “5-6-7-8!” and just want to learn a dance or make one up?

We believe that dance is more about the expression from within you than it is about your technical abilities.
Dancers of all levels, abilities, bodies, and backgrounds are welcomed.
1. WARM-UP. Loosely based in ballet and jazz technique and elements of African dance, the warm-up is designed to get you centered, warm, and energized. We also often begin with verbal introductions and a guided theme, to warm-up your level of comfort and community connection within the class.
2. GUIDED IMPROVISATION. With the gentle guidance and structure of prompts that Jess (or whoever is teaching) will call out, you're led to explore your own movement and personal expression on the dance floor.
3. CHOREOGRAPHY. For this series we'll be diving into choreography based on gestures and movements from The OA (see description above)
After quitting ballet at the age of 19, Jess didn't think she would ever dance again, until years later when the calling kept showing up. Rather than going back to the traditional dance world that felt too intimidating and too confining, she started grooving on her own and making homemade dance videos, which led to creating a unique dance career for herself.
