Join the Western Washington ASME for an evening of meeting with fellow engineers in the Puget Sound Region and learn about the Boeing sponsored Go Fly Prize with guest speaker and Boeing Airplane Safety Engineer Teresa Konopka!

Information about the Go Fly Prize:

Boeing is sponsoring a $2 Million prize for anyone who can create a safe, quiet, compact vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) personal flying device. It has to flytwenty miles while carrying a single person. Innovators from all over the world are able to compete. Phase I submission deadline was April 18 2018, and awards are issued in June 2018. A second round of competition ensues with fly offs in October 2019. Air taxis are the future. From Boeing subsidiary Aurora Flight Sciences to Uber Elevate, corporations are investing heavily into this futuristic market. As a mentor for the GoFly prize, Teresa will discuss technical requirements of the challenge and showcase the Phase I winners. Then, regulatory and safety concerns will be addressed from an airspace and safety engineering perspective. As exciting as the Go Fly prize is, it is fruitless without the proper airspace integration and safety design in place. Come learn about Go Fly and be a part of history!

Information about Guest Speaker Teresa Konopka:

Teresa loves flying and even has some student flight hours in the Cessna 162 and Robinson 22 to prove it! Her bachelors is in Aeronautical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Masters is in Aviation Safety Systems from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. She made a drone as part of the ONE (Opportunities for New Engineers) program, which started her obsession with unmanned aerial vehicles. She has a patent pending on drone payload technology thru Boeing Intellectual Property. Teresa's long-term goal is to be an aircraft accident
investigator at Boeing. Connect with Teresa on linkedin.
