John Robertson from the Grant Writers Seminars and Workshops will do a day-long workshop on the fundamentals of good grant writing. Topics include: conceptualizing the idea, developing a research plan, drafting proposal sections (selecting, organizing, and summarizing key points), revising drafts (using passive/active voice, sentence-level editing), and developing effective graphics.

Although the workshop will emphasize NIH and NSF, it will discuss the basic, fundamental principles of grant writing that are applicable to a broad range of funding agencies. The workshop is intended for researchers from all disciplines: the health and life sciences; physical sciences and engineering; educational and social sciences; as well as the arts and the humanities. Faculty of all ranks and experience, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and support staff are welcome.

The cost of the seminar is $100 and covers an agency-specific workbook, a copy of the power point presentation, lunch, and two coffee breaks. The workbook and copy of the presentation will be provided at the workshop site. The fee will not be collected at the time of registration; instead, IDIs will be sent to the participating units via each school’s Dean’s Office. Participants should contact their Department Chair, faculty mentor, or unit head to obtain clarity on who will cover the cost.

This workshop is presented by the Office of Research Advancement, and is for University at Buffalo faculty

Check-in begins: 8:00am
