Woman to Woman 2017

Now in its fourth season, Kol Nashim, the women’s choir of the Colorado Hebrew Chorale, will present two “Woman to Woman” performances, bringing voice to issues facing women in need, with proceeds benefitting the Jerusalem Shelter for Battered Women. 

The performances will take place at Congregation Bonai Shalom, 1527 Cherryvale Rd, Boulder, CO 80303, on Sunday afternoon, May 21, 2017, 3 p.m., and at Congregation Rodef Shalom, 450 South Kearney Street Denver, CO 80224 on Thursday, May 25, 2017, 7 p.m.

Since its inception in fall 2013 by its founder and music director Leah Peer, Kol Nashim was envisioned as a community of women making music together in support of the larger community of women. In May 2014, Kol Nashim’s first “Woman to Woman” concert at Rodef Shalom raised $1,400 for the Shelter. Since then, the choir has performed similar concerts at B’nai Chaim,Morrison, HEA, Congregation Beth Evergreen, and Temple Sinai, raising $7,000 for the Shelter. In 2015, an anonymous donor stepped forward and matched the funds raised,increasing the amount to $12,600.

The Jerusalem Shelter for Battered Women offers refuge and support to women from all walks of Israeli life without discrimination. Residents include Jews, Christians and Muslims, Arab and Ethiopian women and children. Typically, the women who arrive there are those who have no other support network. Unique to the Jerusalem Shelter is their children’s program,which is funded solely by donations. The Shelter’s residents are typically not from Jerusalem, making it more difficult for their abusers to locate them. The children who arrive receive individual assistance for school adjustment, tutoring and counseling. There is also an in-house nursery school for infants and toddlers.
