MUSIC LINE UP:

Phutureprimitive

Phutureprimitive is the moniker of Bay Area producer and songwriter Rain. Early childhood photos reveal Rain sitting at the piano plinking keys, grinning from ear to ear… a true sign of things to come. Continuing his early fascination with music, Rain was later drawn to electronic music, inspired by its ability to combine the best of organically played instruments and the synthetic pleasures of sounds more exotic to the human ear. After beginning a DJ career in the 90s, Rain began incorporating the music he was making in his home studio into his DJ sets. That was all it took to trigger a full-blown love affair with electronic music and the process of its creation... and Phutureprimitive was born.

Phutureprimitive’s music is singular and unique in its approach. Lush melodies drift across intricate rhythms, groove heavy beats and warm, fuzzy bass lines. Often exploring a dark and dense palette, his music also manages to convey a sense of tranquility and beauty, engaging the listener into hypnotic movement and often escalating into a full-on kinetic experience. Shimmering with cinematic qualities, his music ultimately speaks to the body, mind and soul.

Hedflux

Hedflux is the primary music project of DJ/producer Steve Young. Originating from Scotland, and now based in Hawaii, Steve has been immersed in electronic music for more than two decades. He started deejaying in 1992 and learned music production as an evening/weekend hobby while pursuing an academic interest in Physics and Mathematics. After graduating in 2004 with a PhD in Quantum Physics, he left academia and spent five years working in the tech industry, during which time a relentless desire to live from the heart inspired him to finally quit employment in 2010 and embody his musical passion completely.

Combining the rhythmic elements of breaks with the sonic geometries of psytrance, Hedflux has become synonymous with the styles known as “psybreaks” or “psychedelic tech-funk”, leading the way for a growing group of artists who resonate with the sound, and developing a strong following in both the psytrance and breaks/bass music scenes. The seminal 2010 track “Mindcell” exemplifies his early works; spending 10 weeks at the top of the Beatport Breaks chart, and becoming the 3rd top selling tune of the year, Mindcell went on to win the “Best Track” award at the 2011 Breakspoll Awards. Since then the Hedflux sound has evolved to encompass a broad range of rhythms and tempos, most recently showcased in his ‘Soul Science’ album release on 9/27/2016.

Drumspyder

Scott Sterling brings a deep love of rhythm, drums, and dance to his distinctive style of electronic fusion. An expert percussionist specializing in the tamborine and framedrum families, he weaves together intricate hand percussion with contemporary sounds into high-energy grooves, equally inspirational to the dancefloor and the on-stage performer. Drawing inspiration primarily from the old music of Europe and the Mediterranean, his music is a unique alchemy of ancient traditions, tribal rhythms, and sensual pagan atmosphere.

Originating in San Francisco’s crucible of bellydance, bass culture, and world music fusion, Drumspyder has come into his own as an original producer, building a substantial catalog of work on the Caravan, Dakini, and Desert Trax labels, and releasing two EPs of original music in 2015. He is a prolific remixer, lending his signature live percussion and melodic touch to the Desert Dwellers, Deya Dova, David Starfire, as well as various traditional ensembles. His music has been featured in numerous dance DVDs and theatrical productions.

Mahadeva

Mahadeva has a Dynamic style of music. He loves to play for a wide range of people in all atmostpheric conditions. His musical styling includes components of Downtempo, Psy Dub, Mid Tempo Trance, Glitch, Shamanic Jungle Sound and Psy Trance. To Mahadeva, music Is the Unifying Force of the Universe!

This was my first experience at CoSM, and I am sure to return! I was the guy handing out glow sticks and balloons to all who wanted.(Apologies if the balloons were too much, they seemed like a good idea but i did see some getting frustrated with them. Sorry guys, not my intention.) At one point, I handed (I believe) a balloon and definitely glow sticks to a younger guy. Told him how the DJs bring music, artist and VJs bring visuals, I bring glowy stuff to share for all. After a couple dance moves, I turned, and went back to my backpack, where there was now $20 sitting on top. I grabbed it and looked up at you(the guy I just gave the glow too) and you stepped away just as I looked up. I tried asking you as you left the room later on if you did that, but you brushed it off, said no, and went on your way. The way I perceived this whole moment, you were a sneaky ninja. There is no explaining where else that came from. I just wanted to thank you. I never wanted anything in return but the beautiful smiles on everyone's face. I'm saving that $20 for the spring solstice glow sticks. Brother, if you see this post, come give me a hug at the spring solstice. That's all I wanted from you that night.(As well as to slip the $$ back in your pocket. Haha.) Your generosity goes beyond money. The thought and emotion behind it means more than that $20 could ever in my eyes. Thank you. Thank you all for an amazing first experience and a special thanks to all who work behind the scenes. See you next time! ✌️️❤️🙏

Might be taking the train up. I see COSM is only a mile from the station, but Google Maps is making it seem like that's not a mile to be walked, as there is a bridge with no footpath. Can anyone comment?
