Meet us at Namaste Hall on the third floor of the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS)! The Bay Area is seeing a change in how we approach healing for people in severe distress. Wanna talk about it?

Gnosis Retreat Center is launching Home Services, a program that will provide in-home companionship and support to people in crisis! How do we accomplish this? Through the power of Friendship and Intimacy! Our event with Michael Thompson and Michael Cornwall will explore our approach to working with people experiencing extreme states.

Join Michael Guy Thompson and Michael Cornwall for a discussion of how friendship and intimacy is at the heart of healing extreme states.

The Journal of Humanistic Psychology is publishing a special issue edited by Michael Cornwall, a prominent spokesperson and advocate in the movement to provide healing alternatives to psychiatry. Cornwall has been a lifeline and support for hundreds of people in distress, and is working to select articles to shed new light on the experiences of those who are least helped by mainstream approaches to treatment. He will be leading the group on a brief experiential exercise on compassionately being with a person who is in an extreme state. One of the articles in the upcoming special edition of the JHP is written by Michael Guy Thompson, and will be presented at this event. Thompson lived in the communities started by famous rebel and existential psychoanalytic thinker, R.D. Laing. There are few people better equipped to speak to extreme states and how to better understand them. Thompson will show that, however difficult and unlikely the circumstance, frienship and intimacy is what is healing for people in extreme states.

There will also be information available about how you can become directly involved in Gnosis Home Services and other opportunities to support people in extreme forms of distress.
