Celebrating Milwaukee Hip Hop Week w/ MC Mikal, Devin Drobka
and Barry Paul Clark of Field Report
August 21, 2019
In an effort to honor the cultural breadth of hip hop as a musical genre, a life philosophy and a cultural cornerstone, Washington Park Wednesdays will host a wide variety of musicians, poets, storytellers, seekers, finders and tastemakers for our season finale. The evening will be hosted by one of Milwaukee’s most talented and entrenched artists, Mikal Floyd-Pruitt aka MC Mikal, and anchored by two of Milwaukee’s most prolific musicians, bassist and composer Barry Paul Clark and percussionist and composer Devin Drobka.
MC Mikal is a community artist and cultural producer. His lifestyle brand I AM MILWAUKEE promotes unity, creativity, pride and ownership in Milwaukee,” making him the perfect guide to unpack the season finale.
Barry Paul Clark is classically trained. He is a section bassist in several area symphonies and philharmonics, a instructor at the private, high school and collegiate levels and a film composer. He is a member of contemporary music string quartet Tontine Ensemble, folk rock band Field Report, Americana inspired outfit Lady Cannon, experimental electronic project adoptahighway and the improvised song trio Argopelter.
Devin Drobka is an all-level educator as well and also a member of Argopelter and Lady Cannon. Together with Barry Paul Clark, Drobka founded UnrehearsedMKE, one of the longest-running local series for improvisational music. He was classically trained at Berklee College of Music and in the past two decades has played with and honored some of the greatest names in Jazz music.
In partnership with the impending The New State and media sponsor 88Nine Radio Milwaukee the season finale will lace in performers to intrigue and inspire at a level previously unexplored. We will expand preconceptions while recognizing the common denominator that is so often deemed “hip hop”.” Find your way there to celebrate everything that is in Hip Hop and Hip Hop in everything.
