Wake the Form: Artists’ Books in Context

Wake the Form: Artists’ Books in Context
Event ended

This exhibition explores the art of the book with a display of fine printing, artistsbooks, and other rare editions drawn from Cornell’s collections. Working in a variety of traditional and non-traditional forms, printers and artists have long used the book as a medium to communicate ideas, preserve personal and cultural narratives, present social interventions, challenge conventions of form or construction, examine the past, and imagine the future. The titles on view represent highlights from Cornell’s contemporary book arts collections, from Cornell University Library’s Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections, the Fine Arts Library, and the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, alongside rare volumes and historical documents that offer a dialogue between newer and older forms. Of special note are many volumes donated by Paul ’60 and Helen ’62 Anbinder. Their gifts of fine press and artistsbooks have greatly enhanced the collections of both the Library and the Museum.

The exhibition is on display in the Carl A. Kroch Library’s Hirshland Gallery, open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check the library hours website for updates and Saturday hours: https://www.library.cornell.edu/libraries.
