The lowdown:


* Ideal for individuals, couples or groups, this is a hands-on learning and demonstration class, open to all skill-levels. 

* Aprons, recipes and in-depth guidance will be provided. Some ingredients will be chopped, and spices and pastes measured out and ready-to-go for the class. 

* Spice packs and other ingredients for dishes taught in class are also available for purchase.

* Feel free to BYOB (hot toddies will be served)!

Cooking your way to a sweeter life …

In this new Master Class series, you'll dive into the art and science behind Indian cuisine and learn how to create authentic, soulful and healthy meals, using ingredients easily available in your local market.

This session will focus on tapping into turmeric's health promoting properties, which range from reducing inflammation to exhibiting anti-tumor activities against certain cancers, including breast cancer. We'll make 2-3 dishes using turmeric as a central ingredient.

What to expect:

Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with aprons, receive a walk through of the recipes for the class, and then get right down to preparing dishes. You’ll gather in our fully-outfitted kitchen for expert demonstrations and hands-on instruction in a casual environment, led by a chef with over five decades of experience. You’ll master techniques such as bhuna, dumtadka and baghaar, essential to both classical and new Indian cuisine, and learn hacks key to getting knockout flavor. During and after class, you'll get to sample a variety of dishes, while enjoying lively conversation with your fellow students.

Over the course of these classes, you’ll produce stalwart dishes as well as experiment with new takes on beloved classics, using a wide range of ingredients, including eggplants, tomatoes, cauliflower, potatoes, okra, peas, beans, pumpkins, kale, spinach, carrots, lentils, cilantro, leeks, curry leaves, mint, mustard seeds, nigella sativa, turmeric, bell peppers, collard greens, pomegranate, tamarind, cabbage, beets, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, cumin, coriander, garam masala, saffron, and fenugreek.

Spice packs are available for purchase for all recipes, to help you quickly close the learning and doing gap in the comfort of your own kitchens. Once you emerge from this Masterclass series, you’ll confidently produce delicious, healthy, and budget-friendly meals and, we hope, inspire others with your efforts in the process!

A portion of the proceeds of ticket sales will be donated to Chicago Food Depository, Cook County's local food bank, which provides food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community.
