[Gabrielle Mitchell ] X [ Happy Creative Dig ]
Turn your "Old Tees" into your "New Wall Art" !! This workshop is BYOB & BYOC (Bring Your Old Clothing!)
Learn tapestry weaving and customize your own pop art wall hangings in this fun and relaxing three-hour workshop. Total beginners welcome!
In this class you'll learn:
How to shred old clothing & upcycle the material into weaving threads
How to set up the warp thread on your loom
How to do weaving stitches including plain weave, soumak, and rya knots
How to add fringe
How to incorporate a variety of fiber weights and textures
How to plan and execute your own design
Yarn will be provided in the class, however, we encourage you to BYOC (Bring Your Old Clothing!), especially if you have colors or textures you know you want to use in your weaving! Let's have fun in this upcycle DYI project!
Registration includes the materials necessary to make a small wall hanging, including a wooden loom, tools, warp thread, yarn, a wooden dowel for hanging, and a bag to carry away all of your goodies. You'll leave with a small weaving (approximately 7" wide) and the know-how to create more woven pieces on your own!
** A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to Natural Resources Defense Council **
Hanya, a creative advocate, founded Happy Creative Dig- a pop-up workshop & event space located in Williamsburg NY, where she works on unique projects with artists & creators all over the world.
Hanya met Gabrielle Mitchell, a teacher living in Brooklyn, NY, grew up doing creative art & craft projects with her parents. She was self-taught by making herself a loom out of cardboard, bought a plethora of yarn in 2016. Several purchased and handmade looms later, MANY more skeins of yarn and a wall decorated with weavings, she earned herself the title as a “Weaver”.
Together they designed & created this workshop dedicating to "The Upcycle Project" to promote Reuse, Reduce & Recycle!
