The last of the great train stations, Union Station in downtown Los Angeles is a beautiful mixture of Spanish Colonial Revival and Art Deco. Recently the site of the 93rd Academy Awards, the station underwent an eight-year, multi-million restoration, including cleaning and restoration of a vibrant hand-painted ceiling, stunning Art Deco chandeliers, acoustic and ceramic tiles, and exterior bells that turned out to have 24 karat gold leaf filigree.
Join me and Los Angeles historian Eric Evavold for an in-depth tour of Union Station and its environs, while we focus on the recent renovations that have brought many new details into view.
