This workshop introduces the techniques of Japanese woodblock printing, or ukiyo-e. Japan-born print artist Tomoko Murakami will demonstrate both the carving and printing processes. Create your own small edition of multicolor prints while learning to carve your own woodblocks. All materials provided and all levels are welcome. Space is very limited. Must purchase a ticket to attend the workshop.
Murakami explores the medium of printmaking as a multidimensional art form, bringing attention to new possibilities in the mixed-media art world. She received her M.F.A. in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute and her M.A. in transformative arts from John F. Kennedy University. A recipient of the 1992 Kala Art Institute Fellowship and the 2008 Susan Boulet Fellowship Award, she teaches at Santa Rosa Junior College and Kala Art Institute.
