"Found In Translation:" Assemblage Art by Visiting Artist Grace Kisa
Grace Kisa is an African American artist whose upbringing in 3 African countries, Canada, and the U.S. impacted her with a unique perspective as a "third culture kid." Her time in Kenya influenced her artistic narrative through the use of found objects to create art, and continues to inspire her highly-tactile, colorful, and often feminine figural assemblages and sculptures. Kisa's finely-honed blend of sparingly-chosen objects with hand-sculptured faces creates works that are beguiling, evocative, and imbued with a powerful sense of spiritual activism that are a joy to behold.
