The last time Rochester saw a solar eclipse (annular) was in May, 1994. The next total solar eclipse for us will be April 8, 2024, but no need to wait another 7 years... August 21st of this year will feature the first total solar eclipse in the US since 1991, and it happens to pass right through Deals Gap, aka "Tail of the Dragon" land!
So, for those wanting to witness this stellar event, or just get back to the great roads around the tail, I'm proposing a 5 day trip down south. Leaving Roc early Saturday, Aug 19th, spending the night in WV, then pulling into Dragon land Sunday eve to be rested for the eclipse on Monday. Come back on Tues & Wednesday.
This will be an aggressive mileage trip, a modified version of last years keeping most of the great roads. 450 mi per day will cover it, with Monday being a "break".
