Following the success of last season's complete Bartók cycle, the incomparable Takács offers a program that highlights its deep ensemble rapport. The selections explore the expressive extremes of the string quartet, from the extroverted brilliance of Haydn's Op. 64 quartet, to Debussy's sensuous and impressionistic lone work for quartet. For César Franck's effusive, harmonically restless Piano Quintet, the quartet is joined by longtime collaborator, pianist Marc-André Hamelin, with whom it previously recorded Schumann's quintet to great acclaim.
