Catholics around the world demand justice for clergy sexual abuse survivors

For the first time in the history of the Catholic Church, protestors from around the world will stand united in their call for transparency and atonement to survivors of clergy sexual abuse. We will gather at regional cathedrals throughout the world on Saturday, November 3, 2018.

We welcome all Catholics, former Catholics, and human rights activists who demand an end to the institutional protection of sexual predators over the safety of children.

The date of November 3rd is symbolic. We will gather together on the feast day of the patron saint for social justice, St. Martin de Porres, to seek justice for survivors of clergy sexual abuse around the world. This date is also significant as it follows All Saints Day on November 1st, and All Souls Day on November 2nd. November 3rd is “All Survivors Day”.

Here is what we will do:

1. Protestors will dress in purple to symbolize the liturgical colors of pain, mourning and penitence. Practicing Catholics can continue to wear purple until Pope Francis repents by taking the below action

2. Create personal signs for the event

3. Gather at your local cathedral in support of survivors of clergy sexual abuse on November 3rd.

Our Demands:

We demand that Pope Francis immediately take the following actions:

1. Publicly acknowledge that sexual abuse of children and adults by the clergy has been a chronic, persistent, and pernicious problem within the Catholic Church, and that the Church, rather than addressing the problem responsibility, has used its authority to cover up its criminal conduct.

2. Voluntarily release to all relevant government authorities all records pertaining to sexual abuse by clergy.

3. Immediately cease all lobbying activity seeking governmental and diplomatic protections from civil and criminal litigation.
