Reiss-Davis Child Center & Institute at Vista del Mar Saturdays at the Center Continuing Education Series Presents:

Supporting Fathers to Build Resilient Families

Presented by Kevin Gruenberg, PsyD, a clinician specializing in training on fatherhood and building parent-child relationships.

Saturday, April 18, 2020 | 9:30am–12:45pm |  $60 registration fee includes morning refreshments and 3 CE credits

Research confirms that fathers play a critical and unique role in a child’s development.

Involved fathers promote a child’s social-emotional and cognitive development and, thus, lower their risk of developing emotional disturbance. In cases of maternal depression, fathers can also play a vital role in promoting family resilience and mitigating some of the risk factors associated with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) on young children.

in today’s presentation, Dr. Gruenberg will discuss Love, Dad’s Home Visiting with Dads pilot program for fathers and their babies.  The presentation will focus on home visitation as a primary modality, as well as outline paternal perinatal depression and its impact on families.  He will also share video of a yearlong home-visitation treatment with a father and baby to illustrate a relationship-based and reflective approach to engaging fathers in this period, and how with support fathers grow with their babies.

Lastly, Dr. Guenberg will share results from a 2020 needs assessment conducted in partnership with UCLA focused on improving the access to and services for fathers with young children in LA county.

The event will include the following learning objectives:

  • Identify reasons why fathers need support and signs to look for that indicate perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

  • Discuss ways we can help fathers and infants grow together.

  • Describe ways to integrate fathers into your clinical work.

Kevin Gruenberg, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist who directs Love, Dad, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization focused on integrating fathers into programs for young children and their families.  He has co-directed and researched a home visitation program for fathers and their young children meant to promote paternal engagement and family well-being. Dr. Gruenberg provides consultation and training on fatherhood and building parent-child relationships throughout Los Angeles, and serves on the Maternal Mental Health Governing Council and has a private practice in Los Angeles.

Don't miss this opportunity to examine the vital impact of fathers on childhood development and learn how to integrate home visitation modalities into your practice.
