We miss you. So let’s keep the music going!

The Sultan Room at The Turk’s Inn presents Sultan Room Sessions: LIVE, a mini-series on Instagram Live where we invite a band to take over our account for a concert from their homes or home studios. The series runs on select evenings at 8:00PM EST.

Since opening in July of 2019, we have hosted a variety of shows from James ‘Blood’ Ulmer, to Alicia Keys, Porches, Eartheater, Colin Self, Y La Bamba, Torres, Haley Heynderickx, Frances Quinlan, Wiki (of Rat King), Phony PPL, Pinegrove, John Zorn’s Simulacrum, and many others.

So, let’s keep the music going! Please support our scene and venue! For each show we will list the Venmo account of the artist for donations, along with ways to support the on-going efforts of The Sultan Room at The Turk’s Inn.

Gift Cards are an amazing source of support. They provide operational funds when the need is greater than ever. Beyond that, they offer us the opportunity to return the favor by showing you a great time once we reopen. Cards can be used anywhere on premises, for concert tickets, dinner, drink or kebabs, and they never expire. If interested, you can Venmo us at @Turksnyc. Please include "Gift card" in the subject line and DM your name and the address you'd like us to mail the card to. For any questions or additional assistance, please feel free to reach out info@turksnyc.com. To contribute to our staff fund, please Venmo us at @Turksnyc with "Staff Fund" in the subject line. All proceeds will be distributed to our out-of-work staff.

Please tune in to our instagram account, @thesultanroom select evenings at 8:00PM EST.

This series will have no determinate duration, and will keep going as long as it’s being supported.

Stay safe and healthy out there.

Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, producer, and indie-label owner Emmett Kai will be releasing a collection of singles over the course of the first half of 2020, kicking off February 5th with “High For Weeks”. This first new offering of the decade from the multi-faceted artist is full of the infectious, LoFi Pop that garnered high praise and a growing follow for Emmett over the past couple of years. Still, it is laced with a maturity and confidence that indicates this next set of singles will mark the start of an important creative chapter in the young artist’s life.

Over the first half of 2020, Emmett will be releasing new music, waterfall-style, eventually building into a larger release under a different name - allowing fans to witness the album gradually come together right in front of their eyes. In doing so, Emmett is embracing the new meaning of an “album” in the streaming age and taking advantage of the uniquely modern ability to create and adjust a project in real time.

Emmett’s mellow, soul-drenched earworms have been featured on the cult favorite TV show, Broad City, as well as by press tastemakers such as Dummy Magazine and Earmilk to name a few. Emmett’s past releases have also found their way onto KEXP’s radar and on playlists from David Dean Burkhart, BIRP.FM and countless others

Quirky 60's garage rock is reimagined from the nose of a surfboard, making High Waisted feel like a psychedelic lullaby. They’ve been called NME Magazine’s “Buzz Band to Watch,” declared “The Ultimate Party Band” by GQ and received praise from Consequence of Sound, Noisey, UPROXX, Billboard, LeftBank Mag, Paste, BTR Today.Refinery29, performed live at Nylon Magazine, Paste Magazine, and Sofar Sounds. They spent the last 4 years touring, playing both Riot Fests in Chicago and supporting acts like Brazilian Girls, Shannon and the Clams, Kitten, Titus Andronicus, The Donkeys, Har Mar Superstar, The Coathangers, La Sera, Diarrhea Planet, and La Luz.

Jessica Louise Dye’s powerful voice meshes with Jono Bernstein’s vintage drum vibes, to create modern day anthems full of insightful hopes. Despite a bad bicycle injury last summer, Dye and High Waisted kept busy with a Nylon Mag feature, a record store day release alongside Bikini Kill, Lenny Kaye, and Atmosphere, wrote a song for NPR's More Perfect with a podcast feature, featured by SXSW, headlined the Las Vegas Strip Hard Rock Hotel for SBTV, wrapped their 5th sold out High Waisted at Sea and released The Acid Tapes Vol 4.

“Sick of Saying Sorry” (produced by Tad Kubler of the ‘The Hold Steady and mixed by Arun Bali ‘Saves The Day’) is an unapologetic record about finding hope in a hopeless situation and the strength to get up when the world is screaming at you to stay down.

You've probably seen Miles around - maybe on Late Show with David Letterman drumming with Arcade Fire's Will Butler, or on Jimmy Kimmel Live keeping time for Antibalas, in South Africa onstage with Angelique Kidjo, in Hollywood playing with Amber Mark, leading afrobeat parties with his former band EMEFE, or at the Apollo Theater backing up the late Sharon Jones. Miles has been immersed in his native New York music scene since he was a child, but he first introduced his own distinctive artistic vision when he released his debut EP and companion short film, Swimmers, in early 2018. Just a year later, he followed with his second EP, Doves. The EPs were presented with a companion short film and 3-part music video series directed by Charles Billot, garnering praise for their originality from outlets like The FADER & Stereogum and radio stations like KCRW & KUTX. Recording himself in his Manhattan basement studio, Miles plays each instrument live, deliberately without any quantization or autotune, to create organic pop music that is uniquely his own.
