Strengthening Everyday ESL Conversational & Work Skills in Our ESL Classrooms- (3 Hours)

This ESL Professional Development is divided into three parts. It is designed for teachers of ESL at all levels. It aims to answer the essential question, “How can we impart concepts and skills to our ESL adult learners in order for them to achieve functional literacy and numeracy?” Participants will explore and think deeply about how interpersonal communication, using the everyday language themes outlined in Best Plus 2.0, and the functional literacy tasks outlined in the Best Literacy Test Manual can be integrated into the regular curriculum. They will also engage in hands-on activities that will strengthen English content and strategies, which ultimately benefit the adult learners they serve. Participants will realize how best practices beginning with listening, speaking, reading and writing skills from the Basic Level of interpersonal communication, using everyday language themes, will result in excellent literacy skills emphasized by CAL. These are essential considerations in preparing students for Basic Education classes.

This is a three part series. 

• All NYC RAEN workshops are for teachers/staff of NYSED-funded adult education programs.

• This is a three (3) hour training.

• NYC RAEN reserves the right to cancel or reschedule workshops with fewer than 10 participants.

• Please be sure to arrive on time.  Doors close 15 minutes into the session.

• If you cannot attend the workshop, please cancel your registration on Eventbrite.

• If your program utilizes a “Time Card,” please bring a “Time Card” with you to the session.  The New York City RAEN does not provide Time Cards.

• We reserve the right to unregister any participant who is not a staff of a NYSED Adult Education (WIOA, ALE, EPE) funded program.
