Detroit's favorite poetry slam series is BACK for our first competition of 2020! This event was scheduled for Jan 18th but the winter storm demanded that we reschedule. SO HERE WE ARE!!! All advance ticket and reserved table purchases will be honored. Join us for an evening of powerful words, delicious food, drinks, and big fun with the best crowd in Detroit! FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH, 2020 Aretha's Jazz Cafe 350 Madison, Downtown Detroit Doors 6PM. Showtime 8PM SHARP. -$15 Early Bird Admission (Only 30 will be sold) -$20 General Admission -$60 Reserved table for 2 -$120 Reserved table for 4 -$20 Poet Registration Only 12 slots available. Poets register by purchasing a registration ticket. Slam is open to ages 21 & up. There will be drink specials all evening, and the delicious Aretha's menu will be available for purchase. SLAM RULES: 12 poets. $20 registration fee. NO REFUNDS (Show up!) 3 rounds (please be prepared to perform at least 4 poems total in case of a tie in the final round) Must use original poems. No time limit per poem. NO PROPS ALLOWED. THERE IS NO CENSORSHIP. There will be 3 pre-selected judges. Judges will remain a secret until close to the event date. Slam will be scored using the decimal system. Ex: 8.7 Highest score allowed is 10. First round will include all 12 poets. Second round will consist of the top 6 highest scoring poets from round one, eliminating the bottom 6 Third round will consist of the top 3 highest scoring poets from round 2, eliminating the bottom 3. All poets must arrive NO LATER than 7:30PM day of show. Late arrival = LOSING YOUR SPOT. Slam starts at 8PM SHARP. Performers do not receive comp guests. All attendees that aren't competing must pay the required cover charge.
