Art auctions have been around forever, but few will celebrate thirty-five years of being in business. Established in 1984, SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS will be moving from the B-7 gallery space at Bergamot Station on March 29th, 2019. So don’t miss the March 3rd, 2019 auction. SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS will continue to run its office in the A-5 gallery and will still offer fine art auctions, but not as frequently.
As always this year’s auction will feature works by mid-career and established artists consisting of all mediums including painting, photography, and more.

The difference between SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS and other auction houses is it reaches out to everyday people…not just seasoned collectors. The longtime business offers easy access to high quality art at amazing prices. Many come to learn, thinking prices for artwork are beyond their means, but end up bidding and walk away with valuable works.

The rare Roy Lichtenstein print is receiving much attention. Other famed works to be auctioned are: Robert Heinecken’s Recto/Verso Portfolio (1989), Patrick Nagel’s Red Legs (1983), Jeff Koons Red Balloon Dog, The Valley by Keith Haring and William S. Burroughs, The Seven Deadly Sins William S. Burroughs, along with a Margaret Keane painting, in its original frame from 1963…all set to be auctioned on March 3rd.

Berman explains, “I did a show in San Francisco and Los Angeles called ‘Very Appropriate’ which was a show of appropriation art, and we did very well. Some of the pieces that were in that show will be brought up in this auction.”

Berman had gathered artists such as Gregg Gibbs and Gary Palmer. Gibbs created his own interpretations of Andy Warhol’s the Brillo Boxes, as well as Leonardo da Vinci’s Peace Christ and others. Palmer paid tribute to Banksy’s famed girl with the balloon shredded painting.

The general public is encouraged to participate. Come to the gallery prior to the event (on view now) to see the art to be auction. Ask questions, find out more about the process of buying and selling art. Or just treat yourself to an amazing work of art.

If you are interested in collecting art, this will be a unique opportunity. If you cannot attend, there will be online and phone live bidding. The B-7 gallery will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am-6pm. It will remain open until 8pm on Saturday, March 2, 2019. The catalog is continuously being updated.

The big event takes place on Sunday March 3rd, (1:00pm) at its B-7 gallery at Bergamot Station Arts Center located at 2525 Michigan Avenue, Santa Monica.
