Objectives:
To give children the necessary tools to be safe around familiar or strange dogs, while teaching them how create a POSITIVE animal friendship based on love and respect.
Contents:
1. Fun, short, and very interactive Power Point Presentations in which children learn:
- The Do’s and Don’ts regarding familiar dogs in their own home.
- To identify signs of stress/anxiety/discomfort by observing dog body language.
- Safety around strange dogs in an array of situations, including learning to be a tree or rock.
- Basic concepts in how dogs learn.
2. Practicing Skills Learned: A variety of safe, situational interactions between a therapy dog and volunteer children.
3. Practicing Proper Greeting: Opportunity for children to greet and pet the therapy dog, following the guidelines they have just learned in class.
At the end of the presentation children receive colouring pages!!!
