¡Spanish is Mandatory! A class that brings people together.

House of yes is now offering a sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds, all levels welcome, drop-in Spanish class of your dreams!  Starting Monday March 23rd, and continuing every Monday up until the day Bushwick becomes a truly bilingual neighborhood.

The classes will take place on Mondays from 7:30-9pm at House of Yes.
Suggested donation of $20.
No one turned away for lack of funds.

This hour and a half class, features highly qualified Spanish instructors who will educate you like you’ve never been educated before. Intimidating aspects like conjugations, tenses, and accents will be methodically rammed into a highly entertaining lesson plan for a guaranteed good time.  Our cutting-edge curriculum skips over material you can learn on an app or in 3rd grade,  prioritizing current and relevant conversation topics like flirting at bars, talking shit at nail salons, and sincerely apologizing to your neighbors for that after-hours that got out of hand.

Most importantly, this class focuses on Mexican and Puerto Rican Spanish (bye vosotros!) with the sole purpose of being able to connect with your neighbors: be they down the street or across the border.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Bushwick has the most Spanish speakers of any neighborhood in Brooklyn. For 70,000 people, over half of all Bushwick residents, the native language is Spanish. Bushwick is also home to 38,000 people who ONLY speak English.
The fact that it isn't a given for anyone and everyone in Bushwick to have some basic conversational Spanish skills is an embarrassment at best and an aberration at worst.
We believe that by offering an accessible gateway, we can move in the  direction of making spanish a mandatory and expected skill, allowing us to better connect with and celebrate the spanish speaking  community in Bushwick and beyond.
Let's allow language to bring us together instead of pushing us apart.
¡Let's make Spanish Mandatory!
To support this program and keep it accessible and affordable for everyone please consider chipping into our operating budget here! We will also be collecting donations at the end of every class.
