The South Asia Institute is a unique new cultural institution dedicated to South Asian art and culture, located in the historic Motor Row District of Chicago on South Michigan Ave. in a newly renovated three-story landmark building. Our mission is to foster and promote all art forms, including, visual art, music, dance, film, and literature of the South Asian region through displays, discussions, seminars and live performances.
By engaging locally, nationally and internationally, SAI creates a haven for exploration and understanding the art and culture of the region of the world. We foster collaboration with Individuals and community groups.
Our current exhibition, South Asian Modern Masters, features paintings of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Selected from the Hundal Collection of Chicago, curated by the South Asia Institute’s Art Director, Dr. Marcella Nesom Sirhandi, Ph.D. The exhibition highlights the modernists and mid 20th century artists of South Asia with many of their iconic works on display. The exhibition will remain on view through spring of 2020.
