A student-made analog film about a day in New Haven.
The Sound We See: A New Haven City Symphony was created in the summer of 2019 as Artspace's 19th annual Summer Apprenticeship Program.
The students embarked on the making of a city symphony, learning about the history of this fascinating genre and developing techniques for shooting and processing black and white film stock shot on handheld 16mm and Super 8 cameras. Together, they produced a 24-minute film that envisions a summer day in the life of New Haven, starting at midnight, each hour represented as a minute of film.
The film is being shown at Artspace through September 14th, along with an exhibition documenting the process of the student-filmmakers through text, photo, and ephemera.
Artspace is open Wednesday through Saturday from 12-6pm.
