Imagine lying on your back on top of a yoga mat and pillows with a warm blanket covering you and an aromatic eye mask gently resting on your eyes, while a sound practitioner plays singing bowls and sends vibrations over your body.
A sound bath is a restorative practice that tunes the body and returns you to your natural state. By using frequency and “entrainment,” a sound bath facilitates a shift in brain waves from our normal waking state to alpha and theta states that are akin to meditation—where true somatic healing can occur. A 2016 study found that singing bowl meditation reduced stress, anger, depression, and fatigue. All of these things are known to impact physical health and raise the risk for disease, suggesting that singing bowl therapy may be good for your physical, as well as emotional, well-being.
