Social Engagement: Roberson Museum (Binghamton, NY)

Social engagement activities are a fun and comfortable way for people living with Alzheimer’s or other form of dementia and their caregiver to get out, get active, and get connected with one another through a variety of social events and community-based activities. These activities are determined by the individual needs and interests of the participants, while working to promote social interaction and companionship. One of the core themes underlying the social engagement experience is the changes an individual with Alzheimer’s or other dementia experiences in their behavior, cognition, daily routines and relationships. These changes can often result in isolation, depression and lack of connection with those around them. Thus, individuals seek opportunities that allow them to make meaningful contributions and remain involved and active in daily life, friendships and decisions for as long as possible. These events are also a great opportunity for caregivers to connect with each other. Individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia must be accompanied by their caregiver(s) at this event. Caregivers are welcome to attend on their own.
