Smartscape is a training program specifically designed for professionals in the landscape industry or associated fields. We have a range of students who attend Smartscape, such as those owning or working for landscaping companies (installation and maintenance supervisors and crew members, or office personnel involved in scheduling field staff or contracting), employees of municipal parks and recreation departments, nurseries, landscape architecture or design firms, and property management companies, as well as HOA members.

Smartscape programs are designed to provide education on a wide range of topics encountered in the landscape field, with instruction from experts in the green industry. Attendees can earn continuing education for International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Irrigation Association (IA)*, or the Arizona chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (AzASLA) certification. *For the Advanced Smartscape: Irrigation course only

In Maricopa County, we currently offer the following courses: Smartscape – twice a year (spring and summer/fall)

Spanish Smartscape – once a year

Advanced Smartscape: Irrigation – once a year

The Maricopa County Smartscape program is sponsored by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA), and the Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR). It is endorsed by the Arizona Landscape Contractors' Association (ALCA) and the Arizona Nursery Association (ANA).

*REGISTRATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.* Contact the Program Coordinator if you wish to pay with a check.

Completion Requirements:The Smartscape certificate requires payment of the $99 Smartscape registration fee, attendance for all ten workshops, and a passing grade of 70% on the test.

1. The maximum number of classes that can be missed and made up is two. Missing more than two classes disqualifies you from becoming a Smartscape graduate.
