Sixties Classics: Songs and Stories

Many 1960s songs became classics even though they never hit number 1. We'll look at videos and discuss the songs and performers.

In this seminar, we will discuss 1960s classics, with approximately 16 original video performances from the era in each session, together with biographies of the performers and the background of the times.

This is the ninth series of talks in David’s History of Popular Music, which began 5 years ago with Female Singers of the 1930s and 1940s. He has also covered Male Singers form the same era, Hollywood’s Golden Age of Musicals, Musical Movies since 1965, High School Hop (music of the 1950s), The Beatles’ Era, Songwriters of Stage and Screen and The Folk. A former Harvard Business school professor, David was a global management consultant for 25 years before retiring in 2009.
