This extensive two-day course is designed as a basic sinus and skull dissection course for residents. The course seeks to improve the surgical skill of participants through a series of dissection exercises and review of topics in rhinology and skull base surgery. Upon completion of the course, participants will understand clinical decision making and will have improved dissection skills so as to avoid technical errors in performing  surgery, thus leading to fewer patient complications. Dissection exercises include:

  • Endoscopic Sinonasal Anatomy

  • CT Sinonasal Anatomy

  • Approaches to the Maxillary Sinus

  • Systematic Approach for Anterior and Antero-lateral Skull Base Surgery

  • Applied Neuroanatomy

  • Trans-zygomatic Approaches to the Skull Base

  • Subcranial Approach to the Anterior Skull Base

Emphasis will be placed on providing the physician with a conceptual understanding of the three-dimensional bone anatomy. The course emphasizes intensive hands-on dissection under faculty supervision, rather than observation of videotapes or live surgery.
