Yes, Sashiko is just a straight stitch, but it still takes practice to master!
Sashiko needles and thread are thicker than most Western sewists typically use and they may feel unfamiliar at first, even if you have years of sewing experience. This class will gently ease you into building new muscle memory by repeating straight lines. Sound dull? It isn't. These lines produce a unique texture that can be manipulated by changing stitch length and proximity. We will experiment with color, texture, and thread tension to create highly textured compositions that can be incorporated into other projects.
Open to all ages! Children under 12 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
If you would rather pay by cash or check at the class, email Carol to reserve your seat.
Please bring scissors, pen/pencil and paper to take notes, and a snack (if you need it). Everything else will be provided.
