A Brief Biography
Anxiety over the cold war, black holes and mortality, led David to Christianity, Hollywood and dinner with the Dali Lama. Finally, as a Church youth leader in Ireland, David met a Jewish animator who pointed him to the beauty and wisdom of his own ancient heritage. Now, after years of learning and living a rich Jewish family life... he won’t shut up about it.

Emmy Award™ nominee, David N. Weiss, has written for some of Hollywood’s most endearing family films, from Academy Award™ nominated features, “Shrek 2” & “Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius” to the surprise hit,"The Smurfs" (with a record-breaking 7 weeks at #1, world-wide) and "Smurfs 2". David’s combined box office now exceeds $2 billion, world wide. (If only he got a percentage, his parents might forgive him for not being a doctor).

With writing partner, J. David Stem, Mr. Weiss served as a head writer on the “Rugrats” TV Series and penned the acclaimed perennial “Rugrats Chanukah.” Other TV credits include the hit CBS series, “Cybill” and Nickelodeon’s “Roundhouse.”

An honors business grad of Pepperdine University, Mr. Weiss received his master’s degree from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. Prior to teaming with Mr. Stem, he directed several award winning shorts and penned the screenplay for the MGM Classic, “All Dogs Go To Heaven.” A member of the Motion Picture Academy and former Vice President of the Writer’s Guild of America, Mr. Weiss has traveled the world, teaching and lecturing on writing and religion.

He has also written three books for children, including Kay Thompson’s bestseller, “Eloise in Hollywood” (with Mr. Stem, for Simon & Shuster). Mr. Weiss lives in Los Angeles with his wife (Eliana), their children (Channah and Sam), plus 3 cats, 2 birds, a tortoise and Sandy the dog.

Landed in San Antonio this afternoon (soo green compared to LA!). Was taken directly to the Aroma Grill. Great Burgers! Everything is pointing to a lovely Shabbat in Texas. Special shout out to former San Antonions Mark Schiff and family!
