Science by the Pint is a free science café in which we invite a Boston-area research lab out to a pub or brewery to chat science over a cold one or two. The events are geared toward a general audience – all are welcome and no experience is necessary!

This week's event features:

Dr. Mark Andermann
Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School

“Got Food?: How Specific Brain Cells Control Hunger and Attention to Food”

August 22nd, 2019 @ 6:30-8:00pm at Turtle Swamp Brewing

This week, Science by the Pint moves south of the Charles to Jamaica Plain for a special event with Turtle Swamp Brewing! Turtle Swamp is dedicated to bringing a sense of community and delicious craft brews to the JP neighborhood, so we’re excited to come together with them and bring our own community to this local establishment. We’re also equally excited to host Dr. Mark Andermann and his team of neuroscientists from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, who study how networks of brain cells help guide our attention to food-related sensory cues and how this attention is boosted when we get hungry. He and his lab are also trying to understand the mysteries behind how recent experiences with food cues get replayed in the mind, even long after the experience is over.
We’ll follow our usual event format, with Dr. Andermann opening the event with a brief introduction to his group’s work, followed by a general Q&A with the audience. We’ll then break out into small groups where you can chat one-on-one with him and his research team to hear about their individual perspectives and passion projects within the lab. We hope that you can join us for a one-of-a-kind event that, just like the beer and food, you’ll hopefully replay in your mind long after the night is done!

We hope to see you there!
