During Rep. Miller's 5th Annual Disabitlity Summit, PYLT will be offering a session called Influence to Action: Advocacy, Leadership and Transition targeted for up to 100 transition age students (14-21) who will be attending the event.
Influence to Action is a one-day event that brings students together with the purpose of developing their self-advocacy skills. Activities and topics at the event will include:
Workshops to develop skills to become a leader of tomorrow
How to navigate disability support services through self-advocacy
How to interact with elected officials during a Legislative Panel
How to network with potential employers at an Employment Fair
Our free Summit is a one-of-a-kind event in western Pennsylvania that last year brought in over 1,000 people, 160 participating organizations, and offered over 25 hours of free sessions on a variety of disability and mental health topics. We also offer many hours of continuing education credits for teachers, lawyers, and social workers.
PYLT is a youth driven program run by Pennsylvania Youth Initiative that works to empower young people with disabilities to develop the skills and resources necessary to become leaders of the future- now. Their goal is to promote leadership, advocacy and independence, by offering youth the opportunity to identify their own interests and needs, plan events, and be able to operate the organization in the future.
