Make Sack Lunches for Homeless (North Hollywood)

Hi.

Since mid-March, I ve canceled / removed in-person events due to health & safety reasons. Despite some cognitive dissonance, I ll post a few volunteer opportunities.

Please keep in mind that COVID-19 is still an issue, and some events, charities, non-profits, etc. might have enough volunteers, so it s totally okay to stay home and avoid going out in public. However, if anyone really wants to help, then some events will be scheduled.

Large gatherings should be avoided due to the coronavirus pandemic, so if 1 - 2 people are interested in this, feel free to communicate and coordinate with each other on where & when to meet, how to find each other, etc.

I am mostly just posting various volunteer opportunities. I myself might not attend, but you and other group members can still attend and meet without me.

Meetup allows group members to host events without the main organizer (me); so if any of you want to be the point-of-contact for others, lmk.

The following section below contains relevant info/details. Please read carefully, and if you decide to attend/participate, please take the necessary precautions and be safe (face mask/covering, physical distancing, wash hands, use hand sanitizer, gloves, etc.).

FAQ

Q: Why can t I just show up? If I sign up here on Meetup, why do I also have to sign up with another person or register on another site?

A: I don t want anyone to show up to find out the event is canceled / rescheduled, or that they have too many volunteers and room isn t available for you to help.

Registering with them will save you a spot with them and they can confirm the date, start time, address, parking info, instructions, and updates if anything changes.

On the first Saturday of each month, they make peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and assemble bag lunches for the homeless at their drop-in center.

Note: The venue they use is at a church building, but I asked, and they said anyone/everyone can help. Being Christian or religious is not required.

To repeat, if interested in helping, registering with them is needed. Signing up here on Meetup is insufficient. They have their own sign-up process. Due to COVID-19, many places prefer to limit # of volunteers (to allow for physical distancing), so if serious about helping, sign up with God s Pantry on their website or the aforementioned Google Doc. They can provide more info/details (e.g. when to arrive, where to park, what to bring, etc.).

Parking on the residential street should be available. Check street signs for restrictions/limits.

To get to their drop-in center kitchen, walk toward the side of the church building via the alley, and you should see a door on the side.
