Uncommon Schools, Rochester Prep is excited to host Expect Excellence, a full day of Teach Like a Champion professional development conference featuring Doug Lemov, author of Teach Like a Champion. The conference will be held at Rochester Prep Brooks Campus (630 Brooks Ave) on Saturday, 3/25 from 9am-3pm
Attendees will participate in professional development focused on the skills that increase learning in all classrooms, grades and contents and have the opportunity to interview for a teaching role with Uncommon Schools, Rochester Prep!
Sessions are:
Designing Instruction to Master Reading and Nonfiction:
This session will focus on two key aspects of literacy. First, building a culture of reading and increasing the amount of reading students do in all classrooms. Second, building students’ ability to read and learn from nonfiction texts.
Systems and Routines:
Whether students are raising hands, passing papers, annotating texts, or participating in a discussion, they know how to do it, and they do it well. This excellence is often built on a foundation of well-taught procedures and systems that, with repetition and consistency, become routines – actions that students do automatically and with little-to-no teacher prompting. During this session, participants will be able to design, install, and maintain these foundational Systems and Routines.
