Rietveld’s Daughter is a theatrical performance about the secret life of the Rietveld family. Audrey Bolder plays Bep, eldest daughter of the famous Dutch architect and furniture designer, Gerrit Rietveld. We see through Bep’s eyes as her father becomes swept up in the major Dutch art movement De Stijl, largely side-lining his family in the process. The colourful parade of characters that enters their lives not only changes the course of Rietveld’s life, but ultimately Bep’s as well. All this is played out by a single performer, Audrey Bolder, who switches characters seamlessly from Rietveld to daughter Bep and from Rietveld’s wife to painter Charley Toorop, not to mention the comically-portrayed key individuals of De Stijl movement itself. Brilliant! A moving and irresistible keyhole view into the life behind the renowned name. This is a Portland/Utrecht Friendship City cultural event.
