July's Reel Reads* selection was chosen by Andy and is the 176-page book on which the film Glory was based: One Gallant Rush: Robert Gould Shaw and His Brave Black Regiment by Peter D. Burchard. Fathom Events is having a special re-release of this film that starts at 1PM, so, we will be seeing the film first, then having our discussion over dinner (the restaurant will be announced closer to the date of this meetup).
Plot (via wikipedia): "[The book is] based on letters written by Robert Gould Shaw, white colonel of the first black regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War, the 54th Massachusetts Regiment. They were the first of what became the United States Colored Troops, whose fighting was integral to the Union's victory. Nearly 200,000 African Americans fought in the war."

*Reel Reads is a read, dine, and discuss group for 2019, featuring a book a month from January through December (there may be a month we don't meet due to a holiday). The "reel" part of it comes in the form of film connections (this year we've expanded and may include small screen adaptations, as well). Most of the books, at the time of this event's creation, had film adaptations scheduled to be released in 2019, so, in some cases, we may get a chance to see the movie the same day we discuss the book. In some cases, a chosen book may not have a film adaptation, but, rather, will share the subject matter of a film being released around the time we meetup.
