Baylor University Medical Center is hosting the Reality Education for Drivers—RED—Program for young drivers (14-25 years old) and their parents or guardians. * This free one-day course focuses on driving SECURE (wear your seatbelt!), SILENT (free of distractions like cell phones) and SOBER (no alcohol or drug use while driving).

The course includes class discussions, multimedia presentations, hands on activities and a “behind the scenes” tour of the hospital’s state of the art trauma center. There is also a special section for parents, guardians, and other adult influencers in which RED associates share research-based tools that can be used to help teens become safer drivers.

All students will receive a Certificate of Completion for community service hours** at the end of the course. Adults will receive a folder of “tools” for helping their young driver.

RED class is located in the basement of the Truett Building. From your entrance in the hospital follow the signs to Truett Café and Classroom 1 is across the hall, there will be signs to guide you to the room. There are numerous parking garages, but we suggest parking in Garage 4. Garage 4 is located on Junius Street. From Washington, turn south on Junius Street heading toward the main hospital buildings. Enter Garage 4 on your left. After parking, take the elevators to the ground level and exit the garage to Junius Street. Follow the sidewalk to the left and walk straight ahead into the Roberts Building front entrance. The elevators are on the right. You may need to pay for parking which will be about $5.00.

Participants may bring snacks and drinks or purchase lunch or snacks from the hospital's cafeteria.

For more information, contact Dan Worley at 254-202-6532, Dan.Worley@bswhealth.org, Tasha Whitaker at 254-202-6531, Tasha.Whitaker1@BSWHealth.org, or Abigail Ryan at 254-202-6534, Abigail.Ryan@BSWHealth.org.

Please be sure to wear solid, comfortable shoes with closed toes and heels (no flip-flops).

*A parent or guardian must be present with participant(s) under 18 years old.

**The amount of community service hours granted for attending RED is at the sole discretion of the referral source. Some jurisdictions do not allow persons attending to count RED at community service.
