Reclaiming Ancestral Knowledge Workshop Series

Each year thousands of New Yorkers rely on NYC urban farms, farmers markets and fresh food boxes to secure seasonal, local and affordable fresh food. Yet as we know each season only runs for a couple of months per year, furthering the plight of our food desserts. Learn how to save money and extend your growing season using one of the oldest methods of window farming: hydroponics. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using only water and nutrients and a couple of household items you may already have! Hydroponics has emerged as a popular + innovative option for growing food in urban spaces, yet it was born right in our communities and cultures. Learn about the benefits and drawbacks to this growing method as well as how it compares to soil based growing. Leave class with your own deep water culture.
