Alec’s book will speak to your innate desire to live well, to adapt and grow with grace, and to leave a lasting legacy.

Trials, tragedies, and life-altering events are inevitable. But in the liminal space between crisis and an unknown tomorrow, a surprising freedom can be found and harvested—a fresh sense of what it means to be alive, the consolation of unexpected grace, even a new sense of meaning and purpose.

At Upper House, we are gathering to read Alec Hill’s Living in Bonus Time: Surviving Cancer, Finding New Purpose (InterVarsity Press, 2020). Whether you have personally received a life-altering diagnosis, accompanied a friend or family member through serious sickness, or experienced some other existential crisis such as divorce or physical impairment, Alec’s book will speak to your innate desire to live well, to adapt and grow with grace, and to leave a lasting legacy. Together we will consider how to reframe our most challenging experiences to find new ground within and in spite of our circumstances.

Cameron Anderson, Upper House Associate Director, will host this two-session reading group on Tuesday, March 3 (Chapters 1-7, pg. 1-99) and Tuesday, March 10. (Chapters 8-11, pgs. 100-174). At the second gathering, Alec will join us to discuss his book with the same authenticity that marks its pages.

Books are available for purchase at Upper House for $10. Coffee, tea, and bakery will be served at both sessions.
