Queer Secrets of the MFA
***This tour is SOLD OUT, but there we have scheduled another tour on Wednesday March 4 at 8pm:
Boston is known for its Puritanism, but somehow, the Museum of Fine Arts never got the memo. Instead, the MFA is full of art on scandalous themes: lots of L, and G, and B, and T, especially Q, and powerful, intimidating women--you name it! In fact, the museum is so rich in queer themes that after several years of sold-out tours, we have decided to cover a quite different set of works this year.
On this tour fun and informative 2 hour tour, we will discover:
the way religious art has often encoded same-sex interests
including the sexiest Jesus of the Italian Renaissance
the insane ways women's underclothes have mirrored and shaped their gender presentation
the biggest gay scandal of the 18th century
19th century women artists and their 'Boston marriages'
and an intersex figure we bet you’ve never noticed in a famous impressionist canvas!
Come on our tour, and you will never see the MFA the same way again!
Note that the Greek and Roman wing is closed for the next 2 years, but we promise you: there are plenty of queer secrets spread throughout the museum!

Where does the tour meet?
We meet in the rotunda on the ground floor, *not* at either entrance. The rotunda is near the information desk and the American wing. Note: admission to the museum is free on Wednesday evenings, so you do not need to pay admission or show the museum staff your tour confirmation. The tour is an HGSC event, not an MFA event, and they will not necessarily know where we are meeting. But they can direct you to the rotunda!
What's the refund policy?
We allow refunds up to 7 days before the tour.
