Praxis in Education 2019: Student Conference

Our first praxis conference touched upon the idea of Freire's idea of praxis for transformation rather than educational reform. As Paulo Freire, scholar, educator, and proponent of love, explains, praxis is "reflection and action upon the world in order to transform it" (Freire, p. 51.) With our current sociopolitical conditions, this idea of praxis is necessary more now than ever in a world of uncertainty and disregard for humanity, and this is especially true in education. Educators are dedicated to creating equitable spaces for their students, and we absolutely cannot stop the dialogue surrounding critical awareness of the current state of our educational system and in turn, the environment in which our students are learning.
For this years conference, we invite any proposal that highlights contributions using praxis to make educational transformation. This can be anything from policy change, theoretical contributions, activities, pedagogy, and many other educational approaches. This conference is directed at students - therefore, please be a student when submitting your proposal. Anybody can attend as audience members, however, proposals should be from students. It is important to note that this is open to students across the globe, not only San Diego. Students include, but are not limited to: undergraduates, graduates, teacher education/credential students, etc.
