Best Practice Forum: Plastic Disruptors - The business case for zero waste

Event ended

Best Practice Forums are a series of workshops from SBN that use member case studies to create meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and build a better business. Join us on August 21st for a discussion about the environmental impact of plastic waste.

How can you, as a business owner and a conscious consumer, take conscious efforts to reduce, reuse, and eliminate? Learn about creative and innovative approaches to addressing our cultural dependency on single use plastics. At every point in its life-cycle these businesses are turning conventional plastic usage on its head.

Joining us for this panel will be:

  • Sophie Liu, Business Development Associate at Terracycle. Sophie is on the Business Development team at Loop, an innovative e-commerce platform offering products in reusable durable packaging rather than single-use. Developed by TerraCycle, an international recycling leader in hard-to-recycle waste streams like cigarettes, pouches and more, Loop aims to change the future of consumption by redefining how consumers and brands treat packaging. Previously, Sophie worked in non-profit development as well as event planning and studied ecology and evolutionary biology at Cornell University. She’s an advocate of zero waste living and a recycling enthusiast.
  • Nic Esposito, Zero Waste and Litter Director for the City of Philadelphia. Nic is an accomplished community organizer, agriculturalist, horticulturist, novelist, journalist, publisher and entrepreneur who has a deep connection to Philadelphia’s social enterprise sector and has had much success organizing projects in diverse communities for the purpose of improving Philadelphia’s culture, health and economy.
  • More to be announced!

Stick around after the panel discussion for an optional workshop where SBN staff will guide you through B Lab’s Quick Impact Assessment. This free, 30-minute assessment will help you uncover positive impact and create metrics-based goals towards being a better triple bottom line business. SBN staff will provide an overview of the tool, B Corp certification, and will then provide time for you to take the assessment on your own. Remember to bring your laptop or tablet!
