Attendees will learn the principles of "show don't tell," which is fundamental to writing poetry. And, will then apply what they learn to craft poems inspired by meaningful memories connected to a specific place and time.

Richard Blanco, who has roots in Miami, has won many literary awards including the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Memoir (2015). In 2012 he made history when he was chosen to serve as the 5th Inaugural Poet in U.S. history (for President Obama's 2nd Inauguration), joining the ranks of such luminaries as Robert Frost and Maya Angelou as the youngest, first Latino, first immigrant, and first gay person to serve in such a role.
