ABOUT THE SHRINER HOSPITALS
Shriners Hospitals for Children® is a network of 22 hospitals founded in 1922 by Shriners which provides children up to age 18 with specialty burn care, orthopaedics, cleft lip and palate, and spinal cord injury needs, regardless of a family's ability to pay. Children are eligible for care at Shriners Hospitals for Children® if there is a reasonable possibility they can benefit from the specialized services available. Acceptance is based solely on a child’s medical needs.
The sooner a child with burn injuries reaches a Shriners Hospitals for Children® that specializes in burn treatment, the better the chances of recovery. In an emergency, the referring physician treating a child with burn injuries should telephone the chief of staff at the Shriners Hospitals for Children® in Boston, Cincinnati, Galveston or Sacramento and indicate that there is a patient needing emergency burn care.
