Photograph the Solar Eclipse on August 21

The time is near! As I write this we're about two hours away from the eclipse beginning. Liz and I are on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina where the skies are party cloudy but looking pretty good for us. I took this shot of the sun earlier this morning and notice all the sunspots that have shown up for us today! Put your solar filters on your cameras, put on your safety glasses and enjoy this event. Have fun and post photos for us all to enjoy!

Here's an idea: Shoot the crescent shaped lights through the holes of a Ritz Cracker!

The weather forecast looks PERFECT for this event!

Don't forget to look for photos of people looking at the eclipse.

This is an "on your own" kind of meetup where there is no specific location where members will gather, but instead members will photograph the solar eclipse from whatever locations best suit them.

This page will serve as a resource with tips and suggestions for getting memorable photographs of this unusual event. When the eclipse ends members will be able to post their photographs to the website album so we can see what we were able to capture.

Then, at our meeting on September 13 we'll review some of the images and perhaps even demonstrate a couple of editing techniques.

To get things rolling, here's a photograph that may give you an idea of what to look for during the 2 1/2 long solar eclipse when the sun will be making interesting crescent shapes in the shadows of trees.
