In what has become an eagerly anticipated holiday season tradition, Cal Performances welcomes the inimitable Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra for a glorious performance of Handel's Messiah oratorio. Music director and conductor Nicholas McGegan first recorded Handel's beloved masterpiece with his ensemble more than 20 years ago, and by all accounts his interpretation of the work has grown in richness and spirit over the years, illuminating "the musical wonders of Handel's score" with "a different, deeper character" (Los Angeles Times).
