PEOPLE'S CLIMATE MARCH 2017 in Washington D.C.

PURPOSE
"WHY WE’RE MARCHING: There is no denying it: Donald Trump’s election is a threat to the future of our planet, the safety of our communities, and the health of our families.

This new administration is attacking the hard-won protections of our climate, health, and communities, and the rights of people of color, workers, indigenous people, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA, young people, and more.

If the policies he proposed on the campaign trail are implemented, they will destroy our climate, decimate our jobs and livelihoods, and undermine the civil rights and liberties won in many hard fought battles.

It’s up to us to stop that from happening before it starts.
Our fights are tied together, and we will only succeed together. That’s why, from now through the first 100 days and beyond, we are taking action and standing up for everything and everyone we love — and we are calling on everyone to join us on April 29th; for a massive march to bring our demands to the streets of Columbus, Ohio!

We’re ready to fight back, and we are ready to build a resistance to Trump and Congress’ attacks on our climate, our communities, and our jobs that stands alongside the unprecedented Women’s Marches and other powerful rallies that shook the globe in the hours and days following the inauguration of Donald Trump and the 115th Congress.

On April 29th, we will march for our families. We will march for our air, our water, and our land. We will march for clean energy jobs and climate justice. We will march for our communities and the people we love.

In 2014, we said that it takes everyone to change everything. Now, with everything at stake, everyone has a part to play."

⚑ IMPORTANT NOTE
This event is in collaboration with People's Climate Movement and their Washington DC climate march on April 29th.

Thank YOU for organizing the local March for those of us who couldn't join the D.C. movement ❤ So glad a little climate didn't get in our way 😉

Are you still going until 4? I should have been there. I figured with the thunderstorm and lightening, it would be cancelled. You people are awesome! Thank you! <3

Cari Asar

I think it will clear up around 3:30 or 4:00 I was out in it and it is impossible!!
Julie Eberhardt
-- 29/04/2017 15:47
So the march is happening?
Cari Asar

It's anybody's guess
Maury Falkoff

At 11:00 there was violent lightning where I live. I went at 1:00 when the weather had cleared and many people were coming to COSI to march but I was told that the march already happened. Very poor organization and there were no ongoing events at COSI or the statehouse

Can someone please let me know if this is actually happening. I would like to support the cause but the weather is concerning.
Amy E. Freeman
-- 29/04/2017 15:40
Maybe use whatever advice you'd give to your children. Would you send them out to play or call them in? Maybe the activities can be delayed. (?)
Julie Eberhardt
-- 29/04/2017 15:40
Is the march actually going to happen? Are they presently marching?
Amy Elizabeth

FYI....49 min ago: The OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon has been cancelled due to extreme and dangerous weather conditions. #CapCItyHalf
Amy E. Freeman
-- 29/04/2017 15:26
They used COTA buses to gather people up, when cancelling the race due to weather. The radar looks like you might have some clear weather in an hour or so....(but I'm not a weatherwoman)

schedule? Speakers 1st followed by the March? Or March 1st followed by speakers? We are running late and really don't want to miss the march.

Looks like a small amount of people are gathering under the tents leading to the Cosi entrance

Are we still on, despite the thunderstorms?
Kelly Janice
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
I'm still on! I have no part of planning it, but I'll march no matter what :) They had a post yesterday about getting pop up tents for the Statehouse. I assume that means it's rain or shine.
Lisa Levally Evans
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
I'm heading that way now! Positive thoughts! 😊😂😱
Lisa Levally Evans

Yikes, lightening. 😱
Katie Martin-Renner
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
Ugh -- the radar looks terrible...
Lisa Levally Evans
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
So, are there alternative plans? Lightening is a no go.
Kelly Janice
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
Has anyone tried to message the people in charge. That's probably the best way to get an answer
Lisa Levally Evans
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
Who is in charge? I have no idea?
Lisa Levally Evans
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
Just messaged Carolyn Harding, she might know. Message any of your contacts that are going.

I just sent the 8th fire a FB message - waiting to hear back.
Jilaine Henley Anderson

We are headed down there. Going to brave it. If we get struck by lightning during a climate march, does that make us martyrs?
Ketki Parekh Mougey
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
Any word yet? I'm in my car in the parking lot at COSI. If the march is still on, is everyone inside COSI making signs?
Shelley Davis Garrity
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
Gonna park in State house underground and wait to see if event is on.
Yaohan Chen

Ketki Parekh Mougey

I just saw a couple people walk by with signs ,so it must still be on (although the lightning persists)
Lisa Levally Evans
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
Marching in lightening is not smart.
Yaohan Chen
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
Where are people meeting? Were at COSI entrance
Amy Elizabeth
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
We were there!
Kelly Janice
-- 29/04/2017 12:25
I was there! It was safe and the lightning stopped shortly after we started.

Due to weather, we are looking for temporary donations of pop-up tents and megaphones for the day. This will help us avoid electrical issues and keep speakers, performers, and vendors dry. If you or anyone you know would like to assist with this, please comment on this post. Thank you all so much for your passion and commitment to this movement!
