PEOPLE'S CLIMATE MARCH 2017 in Washington D.C.

PURPOSE
"WHY WE’RE MARCHING: There is no denying it: Donald Trump’s election is a threat to the future of our planet, the safety of our communities, and the health of our families.

This new administration is attacking the hard-won protections of our climate, health, and communities, and the rights of people of color, workers, indigenous people, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA, young people, and more.

If the policies he proposed on the campaign trail are implemented, they will destroy our climate, decimate our jobs and livelihoods, and undermine the civil rights and liberties won in many hard fought battles.

It’s up to us to stop that from happening before it starts.
Our fights are tied together, and we will only succeed together. That’s why, from now through the first 100 days and beyond, we are taking action and standing up for everything and everyone we love — and we are calling on everyone to join us on April 29th; for a massive march to bring our demands to the streets of Columbus, Ohio!

We’re ready to fight back, and we are ready to build a resistance to Trump and Congress’ attacks on our climate, our communities, and our jobs that stands alongside the unprecedented Women’s Marches and other powerful rallies that shook the globe in the hours and days following the inauguration of Donald Trump and the 115th Congress.

On April 29th, we will march for our families. We will march for our air, our water, and our land. We will march for clean energy jobs and climate justice. We will march for our communities and the people we love.

In 2014, we said that it takes everyone to change everything. Now, with everything at stake, everyone has a part to play."

⚑ IMPORTANT NOTE
This event is in collaboration with People's Climate Movement and their Washington DC climate march on April 29th.

At 11:00 there was violent lightning where I live. I went at 1:00 when the weather had cleared and many people were coming to COSI to march but I was told that the march already happened. Very poor organization and there were no ongoing events at COSI or the statehouse

People should march around the state house, create a circle all the way around it. Surround the problem makers and make them feel trapped inside for once. Peacefully surround the source. Same with the White House...circle them in. Put some pressure where it matters most. Peace to all and may we pick each other up off the ground in toughest times like our current day.

There is no link to the FB page. I think the letter might have a mistake.
Lauren Shapiro
-- 26/04/2017 22:13
there's a litte blue f on top of the page that links. What's the mistake in the letter?
Laura Rushton
-- 26/04/2017 22:13
The blue F leads to a link that shows you how to create your own website. The letter says that 16 Republicans have signed the pledge. Is it supposed to be Democrats?
Lauren Shapiro
-- 26/04/2017 22:13
you could try putting operation stamp act in the search bar on fb and see if that works. No, that;'s not a mistake. It is Republicans. The idea in this letter is that the Democrats have the will but they don't have the numbers to get it done. Sixteen House Republicans is also not enough, but the idea is to build on the Republicans, since they're the ones with the powerl So the letter asks a Republican senator (in a Democratic state) to ask her Republican collegues in the senate to follow the lead of the progressive Republicans in the House who have realized that we all breathe the same air and drinbk the same water, and make a resolution in the Senate. The idea is that if she gets 50,000 letters even from democrats or other outsiders that it will give her the support to do what she's already inclined to do anyway. So we're trying to build on sympathetic Republicans as they have the power, and this Senator has the will
Laura Rushton
-- 26/04/2017 22:13
I understand the purpose of the letter! I just wasn't clear on that detail. Thanks for clarifying.

Laura Rushton

So the letter should be copied in this format and mailed to Senator Collins? I just want to be sure that's what you're asking. I was trying to find a way to copy it into Word, but I think I will just have to recreate it.

Hey everyone, If you're planning on attending the People's Climate March this weekend, whether in Columbus or anywhere else, and are a member of an organization, or would like to talk with me about your perspective and experience with the politics of climate justice, please let me know! I will be in DC conducting research for my dissertation, and am interested to connect with people from Columbus both while I'm there and once I get back. Again I'm especially interested in meeting with people as members or representatives of organizations (Sierra Club, The Eighth Fire, Appalachia Resist, etc.), but I'm open to talking with most anyone who has an informed opinion about these matters. Cheers! #PCM #PeoplesClimateMarch

The official climate march map is here! We will be marching from COSI to the Ohio Statehouse (about a 15 minute walk). Parking options should be sufficient in areas along the route. If any Columbus residents would like to make parking recommendations, please share on this post. We want to kindly remind everyone to remain on sidewalks and public areas, so that we can march in peace and pride. As a Native American teaching, we honor the land and all peoples by doing no harm and leaving the land as we found it. See you soon! WE RESIST. WE BUILD. WE RISE.
