Come and join us at this beautiful nature center and enjoy an Ice Cream Sundae bar. This event is best suited for families with children ages 0-5 who are deaf and hard of hearing. The entire family is welcome to attend. Kids are invited to decorate a cup and plant a seedling while parents learn about the importance of helping our young children who are deaf and hard of hearing learn to identify and express their emotions. Jaimelyn King, Mental Health Pracitioner with Volunteers of America, will give a presentation. Hearing loss can affect socialization and emotional well-being in children. Sometimes it can be beneficial to have the help of a mental health practitioner as a resource to help parents teach their children about their emotions and to develop healthy coping skills and emotional processing. Reaching out for support does not reflect a failure on the part of a parent or child. Indeed, adding mental health services can be another great tool for your toolbox, just like classroom accommodations, interpreters, technology, etc.
